Observed on the third Thursday every November, Children’s Grief Awareness Day is an opportunity to raise awareness of the impact that the death of a loved one has on the life of a child. It’s a chance to recognize and support the millions of grieving children across the nation – the thousands of grieving children right in our own communities – the grieving children we know and see in our daily lives.
This Thursday, November 21st, organizations and individuals around the world are participating in activities to acknowledge this important effort. The Moyer Foundation would like to encourage YOU to celebrate with us! The easiest way to participate is to WEAR BLUE and share with those around you about why you are wearing blue that particular day. We are also launching a new opportunity to show your support – please see below.
WHAT:
In partnership with New York Life Foundation, The Moyer Foundation is launching its National Memory Board Project on Children’s Grief Awareness Day 2013. Modeled after a remembrance activity that happens on the first night of every Camp Erin®, the Memory Board gives campers their first opportunity to share their story and realize they are not alone. As photos and memories are posted on social media pages (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram) using hashtag #MemoryBoard, the collection of posts will be gathered in one inspirational board of messages that can be viewed here: http://www.moyerfoundation.org/MemoryBoard.
WHY:
The National Memory Board Project provides a meaningful opportunity for individuals to honor their loved ones and raise awareness of the importance for children’s grief support nationwide. The collection of photos/memories will also be a powerful reminder to those grieving a loved one that they are not alone. ** The content will be moderated and each post to the virtual memory board will be reviewed and approved. For this reason, please allow time to see posts on the National Memory Board Project page.
HOW TO PARTICIPATE:
•Post a photo/memory of a loved one and tag #MemoryBoard – post it directly on The Moyer Foundation’s Facebook wall and/or to your personal Instagram or Twitter.
•Spread the word! Share this opportunity to support grieving children with your friends, family, co-workers… anyone that has a heart for children!
•Visit http://www.moyerfoundation.org/MemoryBoardto see many memorable messages in support of grieving children!
WHEN: The National Memory Board Project is accepting posts now and will continue to collect messages through the March 2014 premier of HBO’s “One Last Hug (…and a few smooches): Three Days a Grief Camp” featuring Camp Erin Los Angeles. (Exact date is TBD)
Not active on social media? Email your photo and caption to rachel@moyerfoundation.org and The Moyer Foundation will share it for you!
Thank you for sharing about the National Memory Board Project! ☺ Hope you’re well and looking forward to a lovely thanksgiving next week.
